Your location makes a big difference in how your photos feel. Consider the season, the light, and the mood you’re going for. A local beach, an open field, the rocky coastline of Maine, a wooded trail, or even your own home can all work beautifully.

2. Dress for the Season, Setting, and Comfort

Wardrobe is an important part of preparing for your family photo session, and comfort is just as important as style. Be sure to dress for the day’s temperature, a cold child rarely smiles.

Layers are your best friend, especially in New England where weather can change quickly. Adding thin layers underneath sweaters, dresses, or button-downs helps keep everyone warm without changing the look you are going for. If girls are wearing dresses, we strongly recommend adding shorts or bloomers underneath. This allows them to move, sit, twirl, and play comfortably without worrying about their dress having to stay put.
